Besides a mild concussion and cervical sprain, Doug Mientkiewicz suffered a fractured bone in his right wrist during his collision with Mike Lowell on Saturday. If the other injuries didn't, the fractured wrist guarantees that he'll spend considerable time on the disabled list. Expect the Yankees to call up Andy Phillips to share time with Josh Phelps at first base. Phillips is enough of an upgrade defensively that he might get more at-bats than Phelps initially.

Roger Clemens won't pitch Monday after hurting his groin in his last start Monday for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Kei Igawa is expected to be called up to replace him. Clemens is very vulnerable to leg problems these days, and the Yankees should have figured he'd be good for one DL stint. At least they're saving some money with it happening now instead of after he was added to the active roster. Odds are that he'll miss at least two starts.

Joe Blanton pitched his second career shutout as the A's edged the Twins 1-0 on Saturday. There were no RBI in the game, as the only run came on Shannon Stewart's double-play ball in the sixth inning. Blanton, whose previous shutout came May 31, 2006 against the Royals, allowed just three hits, walked none and struck out six in the second quickest game of the season (1:49). The A's were also involved in the first, a 2-0 win over Seattle on April 27 (1:47). Oddly, the three fastest games in baseball this year have been AL contests.

Angels activated outfielder Garret Anderson from the 15-day disabled list. Anderson is likely to get most of his playing time at designated hitter for now. He no longer has the bat to be much of an asset in that role, but he'll probably be an upgrade over Shea Hillenbrand. Until something changes, most of Hillenbrand's at-bats will come against lefties.

Jason Schmidt (shoulder) had a successful bullpen session Saturday and will come off the disabled list to start Tuesday against the Padres. He'll replace Mark Hendrickson in the rotation. If Schmidt only has so many bullets left in his arm, the Dodgers figure they might as well use them now. NL-only leaguers will probably want to activate him immediately. Mixed leaguers could take a wait-and-see approach.

Carlos Zambrano was fined following Friday's fight with Michael Barrett, but the Cubs didn't try to suspend him. Zambrano took the blame for the incident that resulted in Michael Barrett going to the hospital for stitches. "It's all my fault," Zambrano said Saturday. "That's all I can say. I feel bad for that." Zambrano will next pitch Wednesday. Koyie Hill is expected to be the catcher in that one.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.

Game of the Day
The Red Sox reasserted their dominance of the AL East this season with an 11-6 victory over the Yankees. New York had a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the seventh, but the Yanks and their bullpen fell apart, giving up five runs to Boston and eventually losing 11-6. Yankee goats included reliever Scott Proctor and shortstop Derek Jeter, who muffed two potential double play balls in the seventh.

Mike Lowell was 3 for 4 with a double and a home run for the Red Sox. He also inadvertently ran into Doug Mientkiewicz, who was trying to field a poor throw by Jeter, and knocked the Yankee first baseman onto the disabled list with a mild concussion and fractured wrist.
