According to the New York Post, the Pirates will be getting Daniel McCutchen and Jeff Karstens along with Jose Tabata and Ross Ohlendorf from the Yankees for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte.
It was widely reported last night (including by the Post itself) that George Kontos and Phil Coke were in the deal in place of McCutchen and Karstens. This is clearly better for the Pirates. McCutchen is arguably the Yankees' best remaining pitching prospect, though he's not a big upside guy and he doesn't rank with Phil Hughes or Ian Kennedy. Karstens isn't much more than middle relief fodder, but neither was Coke.

Debunking some previous rumors of a possible promotion, manager Ron Gardenhire announced Friday that Francisco Liriano will start Sunday for Triple-A Rochester.
Liriano is, of course, 9-0 at Triple-A and really has nothing left to prove in the minors. He has a 0.29 ERA with 42 strikeouts in his last five starts. Yet, the Twins are hesitant to give up on Livan Hernandez, or any other pitcher for that matter.

Kevin Millwood apparently had a rough throwing session on Friday and looks to be headed for the disabled list.
The Rangers will probably make the move Sunday when they bring back Eric Hurley. Millwood was pulled from his last start after feeling tightness in his right groin.

According to the Providence Journal, Manny Ramirez faces disciplinary action if he isn't in the lineup on Saturday.
An MRI on his right knee Friday came back clean, but Manny told bench coach Brad Mills just before game time that he'd be unable to play. Some believe Ramirez is taking out his frustration with upper management by faking a knee injury. Manny is seeking a contract extension and has had a couple of brushes with teammates and staff members this season. Still, there's little to no doubt in our minds that Manny will be in that lineup on Saturday. He faces a suspension and fines if things go any differently.

After throwing a successful 30-pitch mound session on Friday, Roy Oswalt was officially named Monday's starter against the Reds.
"It went pretty well," Oswalt said. "I felt no pain. It seems like I haven't pitched in a while. Hopefully, I'll get out there Monday and get in a groove early and be able to get deep into the ballgame. I have 13 more starts and should be able to get 200 innings and hopefully take a little pressure off the bullpen." He's 7-8 with a 4.56 ERA this season and hasn't pitched since July 11.

Josh Hamilton hit a two-run homer off Sean Gallagher to become the first player to 100 RBI in Friday's 14-6 win over the A's.
Hamilton reached 100 before any other American Leaguer got to 80. Ryan Howard is second in baseball after collecting his 89th and 90th RBI tonight. Hamilton has only been the AL's best player if one weighs RBI far beyond all other statistics, but he is having an amazing season. He's driven in multiple runs in seven of his last 13 games.

Brad Ziegler tied the major league record of 25 consecutive scoreless innings to begin a career Friday against the Rangers.
Ziegler was removed after retiring four of the five hitters he faced. He tied the record establised by George McCullen in 1907.

Carlos Gomez rejoined the Twins on Friday night after being hospitalized with a back injury and receiving an injection for the pain.
Gomez, who was taken off in a neck brace and on a stretcher, was cleared by doctors to play as soon as he feels he's ready. It may be a few days, but it seems as though he has a good chance of avoiding the disabled list.

Joba Chamberlain struck out nine in seven innings to earn the victory as the Yankees topped the Red Sox 1-0 on Friday.
The Red Sox only really hit Chamberlain in the second, and Joba was lucky then when Mike Lowell's long drive to left hit high off the wall. What would have been a homer in 29 parks was a single in Fenway, and two more well-hit balls in the inning only resulted in three outs. The Yanks got their run off Josh Beckett on Jason Giambi's slow grounder against the shift. Warnings were issued in the contest after Chamberlain went up and in on his favorite target, Kevin Youkilis, but nothing came of it. Mariano Rivera pitched the final 1 2/3 innings after Kyle Farnsworth struggled in the eighth and notched his 26th save.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
