Kirk J. Radomski, a New York Mets clubhouse employee between 1985 and 1995, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in San Francisco to distribution of a controlled substance -- a schedule three anabolic steroid -- to "dozens of major leaguers on teams throughout the league." We'll file this under Kent, simply because he's one of the few mid-90s Mets still in the league. Rodomski has yet to name names, but, as part of the plea agreement, he is cooperating with former Senator George Mitchell's investigation into steroid use. According to SI.com, cell phone numbers belonging to current and former MLB players have already been identified. Expect to be hearing a lot about this.

Astros purchased the contract of outfielder Hunter Pence from Triple-A Round Rock. Pence, who was hitting .325/.386/.550 in 80 at-bats for Round Rock, will get a chance to become the Astros' everyday center fielder. The Astros are sold on him defensively, and he's probably ready to do the job on offense. Still, he can't afford a bad first three weeks.

Athletics acquired outfielder Chris Denorfia from the Reds for two players to be named and cash. Denorfia, 26, will miss the rest of 2007 following Tommy John surgery, but he should come in real handy in 2008 as a fourth outfielder. The right-handed hitter had lines of .317/.391/.526 and .349/.409/.484 in the minors the last two years. He can play an adequate center field and he's above average in the corners. The Reds thought they didn't need him following Josh Hamilton's emergence, but as long as they're counting on Ken Griffey Jr., they're always going to need quality reserve outfielders.

Roger Clemens' agent reiterated Friday that Clemens will make his decision regarding where to play this season "by the end of May." "Roger has been working out and feels good," agent Randy Hendricks wrote in an e-mail. "But he has yet to ramp up his workouts, the kind where he tortures himself. I have been in communication with all three teams and all three are, of course, interested."

Sammy Sosa hit career home run No. 595 in a 5-3 win over the Blue Jays on Friday. Manager Ron Washington named Sosa an everyday player yesterday, and Sosa rewarded him with his seventh homer of the season today. That he's batting just .253 is limiting his value, but Sosa has still been a pleasant surprise. He's just five home runs away from becoming the fifth player ever to reach 600 homers.

Jim Thome, back in the lineup after missing two games with sore ribs, was pulled in the first inning after fouling off a pitch. It seems he still wasn't ready to play. Alex Cintron replaced him during the at-bat and remained in as a DH.

Ken Griffey Jr. has been diagnosed with pleurisy and is is listed as day-to-day. It's an inflammation of the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs. Griffey is sitting out a second straight game Friday after waking up Thursday with chest pains.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
