Webb played catch from 115 feet Tuesday and called it his best throwing session thus far. "I talked to some people, and they said it could be between four -to six weeks, and then I think Bartolo Colon was out the whole year with this," he said. "It just depends on the person and how they treat it, probably." He'll attempt to pitch on flat ground early next week. Multiple sources now maintain that Rockies manager Clint Hurdle won't make it through the weekend. Then again, if the Rox go out and sweep the Padres at Coors Field, we could all be signing a different tune on Monday. One thing is for sure: Dragging this out for weeks on end won't help anyone, or anything. Stay tuned. Brett Myers will have a second opinion on his ailing right hip before he makes any decision about surgery. Myers is obviously hoping to the avoid the procedure. "I don't know what I am going to do," Myers told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "First I am going to get a second opinion. . . . I am going to explore every option I need to to keep pitching, but if he tells me, 'It's over, you need to have [surgery] now or you could cause damage,' I will have it. I have to. It's a no-brainer." Pirates manager John Russell announced Thursday that closer Matt Capps (elbow) will avoid the disabled list. Capps will throw a side session at PNC park Friday afternoon and could be game-ready by the end of the weekend. "I don't think I ever thought about the disabled list," Russell said Wednesday. "We didn't think it was going to be a two-week thing. He felt good enough to play some catch [Thursday], and that's a great sign." Carlos Zambrano was suspended by Major League Baseball for six games. Zambrano will not appeal the decision and will miss one start because of the suspension, which begins Thursday. He bumped into umpire Mark Carlson during his tirade Wednesday after being tossed from the game for disputing a call. It's unclear who'll start in his place at this point. Following an MRI on his ailing right hip, surgery may be an option for Brett Myers. The MRI revealed fraying and possible tearing in the labrum of the hip. He'll seek a second opinion before making a decision. "It is possible that Brett will not make his next start. That decision as well as any decision on a possible DL stint or surgery will be determined at a later date," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement. Myers is 4-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 10 starts for the Phillies this season. Rangers owner Tom Hicks is open to selling control of the team. Hicks has had full control of the club since he purchased the team for $250 million in 1998. "I've been trying to sell a minority interest in the Rangers," Hicks said. "I've had a number of interested parties that I'm talking to. Now I'm prepared to expand that to people who are interested in a controlling interest." Giving up controlling interest would require the approval of the other 29 owners. Hicks said a sale could be completed between now and the end of the season. Ryan Doumit (wrist) has been cleared to resume rehabilitation immediately after a CT scan on Thursday showed good healing. According to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Doumit will wear a cast for a short time, but could resume throwing as early this week. His estimated return in June looked in doubt earlier this week, but he could be back on track. Still, expect the Pirates to show caution with his rehab. Major League Baseball is reviewing Carlos Zambrano's tirade from Wednesday afternoon's game against the Pirates. Them and everyone else. After getting thrown out of Wednesday's game following a disputed call at the plate, Zambrano bumped into umpire Mark Carlson, among other things. He's likely facing a suspension for the incident, but MLB spokesman Pat Courtney told ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine that they are uncertain when a ruling will be handed out.
