THT Links: Stats Are Up

by Matthew Carruth
April 04, 2007

First a quick note on the title. While our stats feed is indeed up and functional, we will not be getting zone rating for a while now, sorry. Anyways, we are officially off and running with the season now, all 30 teams have played at least one game.

Mariners Off to Best Start in Decade - What's more sad; that a 2-0 record constitutes the best start your team has had since 1996, or that these two wins against the Athletics match the total from the entire 2006 season in which Seattle bent over for Oakland to the tune of a 2-17 record? Now with Ballhype, you can settle this debate.

Lincoln to Miss All of 2007 - Poor Bucs fans. Brad Lincoln, the 4th overall selection in last years draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates underwent reconstructive elbow surgery and will miss the entire 2007 season.

Fat Pitches - Basil at Federal Baseball has a detailed graphical look into John Patterson's opening day. Also, he plugs THT so he gets honorary mention for that alone. Yes, it's all about kickbacks in the business.

End of the Line for Choi? - Hee-Seop Choi, currently residing in the Tampa Bay minor league system, was drafted by the Kia Tigers of the Korean professional baseball league. It seems likely that he will accept the draft and head to Korea.

MLB's Foreign Influence - 246 players, or 29% of starting Major League rosters were born outside the 50 states, just shy of the 2005 record of 29.2%.

Carpenter to Skip Next Start - Chris Carpenter is experiencing some elbow pain and will skip his next start.

Replacement Fielding - Tom Tango looks at replacement level fielding and finds out just how awesome our current crop of 3B really are.

Nats Injuries - Nook Logan is the young season's first official injury as he heads to the DL with ankle problems resulting from his Opening Day collision with the wall. Cristian Guzman also hits the 15-day DL with a hamstring injury.

That's a Nice Payday - According to reports, Bud Selig earned $14.5 million in compensation during the 2005 fiscal year which is the same salary as Vladimir Guerrero, Lance Berkman and Carlos Delgado.

Loaiza has Bulged Disc - Esteban Loaiza has a bulging disc in his neck that the A's believe can be treated non-surgically. This is good news for A's fans and it pushes up the timetable on Loaiza's return, though by how much is still uncertain.

News on Kemp and Loney - Matt Kemp will be part of a non-platoon platoon and James Loney was not pleased with being sent down to the minors.

Wednesday at THT

Who Are These Guys? - The Washington Nationals have to field a starting rotation, whether they want to or not. Jeff takes a look at who they dug up.

Sometimes It Is How Far You Hit Them - Greg categorizes last year's home runs and tells us what it all means for this year.

Business of Baseball Report - Cubs for sale and spring training attendance.
