Waiver Wire Offseason: ALby Rob McQuownNovember 06, 2009

Ah, well, I could have chosen words more carefully, I certainly didn’t mean to imply anything wrong with that statement… It’s more of a “roto adage” than anything, and it’s probably borne out as being pretty accurate over time, from what I’ve seen in all my years of playing… That was my point about Teixeira… he never seemed like a “flashy” pick all the times I took him, but he didn’t lose me any leagues, either. :> Posted 11/06 at 02:13 PM

That’s funny. Watching him hit in the WS I tried to figure out how much I’d pay for Tex next year to try to take my mind of the damage he could do. Again, thanks for the write ups - I didn’t realize Uehara carried so many injuries with him from Japan. That’s unfortunate, I’d like to see the O’s contend soon More suggestions I’ll throw out there: hitters Posted 11/06 at 02:22 PM

Matt LaPorta was covered in the 10/23 batch: ... always happy to comment further if people have questions/comments. Posted 11/06 at 03:18 PM

My comment came out snarkier than I meant it to. I don’t mind being the “quipper”, it’s all good. NO worries. An auction draft would be fun, but can you do those online? It might be hard for some to make it in-person, unless you all live in upstate NY. Posted 11/06 at 04:48 PM

argh, and I read that one! Sorry about that, I think I was too distracted by the Santana coverage that week. Posted 11/06 at 07:37 PM

Thanks. Granted, you’ve made at least one decision (Garza) harder—but now I can make it with some actual information behind it. For further consideration, how about John Danks and Marc Rzepczynski, especially Zep? (I admit it. I C&P’d the name!) Thanks. Posted 11/08 at 09:14 PM

Good choices. I’ll cover all the suggestioed players Friday except LaPorta and Rzepczynski. Rzepczynski was my “sleeper” pitcher pick for 2010, when responding for THT on the “Fantasy Baseball Roundtable” discussion (http://fantasyphenoms.com/baseball.php?id=1202). It feels like writing about him again would just be reusing a lot of the same material, though I’ll scrounge around and see if I can dig up any more on him. I watched some replays of a couple of his games for the first Waiver Wire on him, to see him pitch, and to also see if the Toronto broadcast teams had anything to offer (and to find out for sure how to pronounce his name). Since he’s exceeded his “prospect” innings quota, he likely won’t be under the same microscope as a prospect would be, but he hasn’t really established himself, either. So, I’ll share anything I come up with. It just may not be *this* Friday. Posted 11/08 at 09:35 PM

Rob,
That wasn’t a quip.
I was just pointing out that the first two picks are important, too. I never did respond to Derek’s comments. Hmm.
Well, it was sorta a quip, now that I think about it.
