Will RotoInfo steal this post?

by Colin Wyers
October 06, 2009

I'm not going to bother with linking to them, because I don't want to reward the sort of behavior they engage in, but the website RotoInfo steals posts. It seems like this is all they do with their MLB "blog."

This is something I've noticed before with other websites, and I've notified those writers of it. But today, it happened to a post I wrote, and it really bothers me greatly.

So if you operate a baseball-related website, please:

  1. Let your readers know about the sleazy behavior of these people.
  2. Don't link to them or give them your own traffic.

They are nothing but a bunch of parasites, and they deserve every bit of scorn they get.

UPDATE: They will:

They literally copied and pasted Jeff Zimmerman’s entire post today on BtB, and the post by Craig Brown directly below this one (in addition to yours, Colin). They don’t give any credit at all, it literally says “by rotoinfo.”

Yeah, I noticed that about them a couple years ago via one of my blogs.

You just gave me a great idea. What if everybody started adding into their posts about how RotoInfo is a stealing/stupid/unethical website… and then RotoInfo copies it and basically says it about themselves on their own website? It’d kinda be like when you’re a kid and somebody’s copying everything you say, so you say “I’m stupid” just to get them to say it.

Sad, just sad.

Do they at least link to the real author at the bottom of the post to give some credit?

PRobably they are just using the RSS feed, so, yes, anything you put onto the RSS will get grabbed.

PS When I go to their “blog” my anti-virus pops up to warn me about a trojan horse, so I would highly recommend just staying away altogether…
