Well, so much for that

Posted by Matthew Namee
After barely giving him a chance (14 AB), the Padres demoted Jon Knott to AAA to make room for reliever Ricky Stone. This is just a crap move. Stone has been a decent enough pitcher in his career, but he's got a 5.68 ERA this year and is basically just a run-of-the-mill middle reliever. Meanwhile, Knott could put up an .870 OPS if somebody would just give him an opportunity.

Matthew Namee cofounded The Hardball Times in 2004, when he was working as the assistant to baseball author and Red Sox executive Bill James. Matthew still lives in Kansas, where he is currently pursuing a law degree. He can be reached at mfnamee [at] gmail [dot] com.
