Carlos Gomez: from Hardball Times to international scouting director

Posted by Chris Jaffe
We here in the THT family heard some good news, as Carlos Gomez, a former contributor here at THT, just became the international scouting director for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Obviously, we're all delighted for him.

He started out as a relief pitcher in the minor leagues who posted at Baseball Think Factory under the user name Chad Bradford Wannabe. From there, he got involved in video analysis of pitchers, and came here to do that.

We thought he was great, and those of you out in reader-land also did. So did the Diamondbacks' front office, which liked what he wrote enough to hire him as a scout in late 2007. Now he just won a promotion. Good for him.

History instructor by day, statnerd by night, Chris Jaffe leads one of the most exciting double lives imaginable; with the exception of every other double life possible to imagine. Despite his lack of comic-book-hero-worthiness, Chris enjoys farting around with this stuff. His new book, Evaluating Baseball's Managers is available for order. Chris welcomes responses to his articles via e-mail. Oh, and now he's on twitter.
