Duchscherer looking for a long-term deal

Posted by Bryan Tsao
Newly minted two-time All Star Justin Duchscherer is looking for a three-year extension. Amazingly, the A's still own two arbitration years on him, and even though as a fan it'd be awesome to lock up and take care of the guy who went from under the radar starting prospect to middle relief ace to All Star starter, as an analyst I think the A's should definitely go year to year with a guy who hasn't pitched starter's innings in a few years and has a long injury history. The A's are loaded with young pitching talent in the minors, and guaranteeing two arbitration years for a discount on his age-33 free agent season just doesn't seem like a good deal from a financial perspective.
