Joe Sheehan has a great post up at Baseball Prospectus (it's free), pointing out that Cliff Lee hasn't faced nearly the level of competition that Roy Halladay has. We spend a lot of time adjusting baseball statistics for context, but we don't often adjust for one important aspect of context: level of competition. Perhaps we should spend a bit more energy incorporating competitive adjustments into our cutting-edge stats.
