From the Penthouse to the Outhouse

Posted by Aaron Gleeman
Just two and a half years after Luis Gonzalez blooped that single over the drawn-in infield, the Diamondbacks have fired Bob Brenly as manager. This is not only surprising (to me, at least), but also somewhat troubling, in that Brenly could very well re-join FOX as a broadcaster by the end of the year.

The other thing that this may signal is that Randy Johnson is being shopped. If the team fires Brenly, you've got to figure they're now in full rebuilding mold, and certainly a 40-year-old pitcher doesn't fit into those plans. The prospects they could get for him obviously do, though.

By the way, think they're regretting dealing Lyle Overbay yet? My buddy Al Bethke over at Al's Ramblings thanks Arizona for that deal every day.
