Wednesday, December 12, 2007Hardball Times Annual and Billy SouthworthPosted by Dave StudemanI don't know if you caught the news a week or two ago, but manager Billy Southworth was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame. I mention this because the THT Annual has a piece on Southworth, penned by Jon Daly. Jon has been researching Southworth's career for a while now, and he presented his findings at last summer's SABR conference. So, not only is the Annual a great read, it's timely too! Alas, the Southworth article contains the one major error that's been discovered in the Annual so far: The last sentence was accidentally cut off. It should read... If there were no professional baseball, what would he probably have done with his life?: Southworth would have worked on the railroad all the livelong day, like the rest of his family. Our apologies to Jon and Billy. Dave was called a "national treasure" by Rob Neyer. Seriously. Comments about this article can be sent to him through the miracle of e-mail.
