Executive Development Fellow (EDF) - Web Software Development, Baseball Systems

The primary responsibilities of the EDF are to assist the Software Development staff with designing and supporting web-based applications for the Baseball Department. Through an intensive and structured 12-month immersion program, the EDF will also be exposed to other facets of the Indians business operations and will participate in a comprehensive orientation and mentoring program to enhance professional development.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Work closely with Baseball Operations staff to define business requirements that could be provided through software development.
• Ensure that proposed and existing systems architectures are aligned with organizational goals and objectives.
• Implement state of the art web-based user interfaces, including the use of drag-and-drop, asynchronous content loading (Ajax).
• Perform software design, development, and maintenance for custom software applications and interfaces.
• Ensure that written software is supported on mobile devices, including Apple iPad and Android-based tablets.
• Identify and validate solution interfaces, dependencies, and integration points.
• Provide occasional off-hours support during baseball games as scheduled. Maintain knowledge of systems used throughout the ballpark to provide first-line trouble shooting at these times.
• Participate in the organization’s EDF program, including orientation, mentoring, and feedback seminars.


Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field.
• Extensive knowledge of one or more web-supported development environments, including but not limited to ASP.NET, Silverlight, Java, Python, PHP, Ruby on Rails, and HTML5.
• Extensive general knowledge and experience with computer system hardware, networks and operating systems.
• Knowledge of Microsoft SQL server and/or Oracle database programming and access methods.
• Broad general understanding of baseball, preferably including knowledge of the baseball industry.
• Working knowledge of best practices for web user interface design and usability.
• Experience with data visualization preferred.
