McCarverism

Posted by Jeremy Greenhouse
I just heard Tim McCarver throw out this beauty, and felt it should be shared with the masses:

"I said it was Izturis who didn't get the bunt down last year. It was actually Manny Aybar. Excuse me, Erick Aybar, not his younger brother Manny who plays for Tampa Bay."

Any questions? Feel free to email me.

I heard that as well.  What a gem!  Did you take a foul ball to the dome this afternoon, Tim?

Or rather his older brother, Willy. Manny was a pitcher and, I believe, not related.

I heard it too, but decided I just HAD to be mistaken, because I was doing several things at once.  Glad to know that my ears were, in fact, not deceiving me.

Wow dude, how the hell?  Its one thing to suck at broadcasting but at least get your facts straight.  I mean using every cliche ever spoken in every single game is bad enough, now he doesn’t even know players names?  Did I miss something here?  Are networks (ESPN, FOX) just plain stupid or are they just extremely stubborn and enjoy annoying fans by keeping Tim McCarver and Joe Morgan employed? I really just don’t get it…

What I really want to figure out is how I can slow down the radio play by play so it can sync up with the TV.  I would kill to listen to Vin Scully while I WATCH the game…

Did he at least have the right Izturis?

What about McCarver saying WWI ended in 1919? Or repeating the same thing 5 times in a single at bat? He’s a joke. Especially when there are so many good analysts out there. And yes: Joe Morgan is a pain also.
