The Red Sox placed ace Josh Beckett on the DL today. Most projections have the Red Sox a few games better than the Yankees, and losing Beckett for a couple weeks shouldn't hurt that much; reports of the Red Sox demise seem far too premature, in my opinion. That said, if he's not going to be effective this season, it certainly opens the door for the Yankees to take the division and the loser of the Cleveland/Detroit derby in the Central to get into the playoffs.
