Rest in peace, Cliff Dapper

Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
Clifford Roland Dapper died this week in California at the age of 91. He played professional baseball over three different decades and was a teammate of many Dodgers legends, including Carl Furillo, Don Newcombe and Duke Snider.

He had a spectacular cameo in the major leagues, served our country in World War II and was part of a curiosity when he was dealt for broadcaster Ernie Harwell.

I wrote about Cliff Dapper back in November for a Hardball Times article. You can read the article here.

Cliff Dapper lived a major league life. May we all live that long and memorably.

Rest in peace, Mr. Dapper. Say “hi” to Ernie for all of us Tigers’ fans.

as an old brooklyn fan,i cannot thank you enough for this article-bringing back the memories of the fabulous dodgers one more time-the dapper kid’s story demonstrates how tough it was to get on the field when your butt wakes up in the south pacific-but he made it home, and was unable to crack the lineup of one of the greatest teams ever assembled.to wit,a guy named campy.nothing to be ashamed of there.in his post summer boy years he made lots of money.more than most big leaguers of his era.rip,mr.dapper.say hi,to campy, please.
