Streak Over
Posted by Aaron Gleeman
Eric Gagne just blew a save. It's been a very long time since someone could say that. After 84 straight saves, Gagne just gave up two runs in the top of the 9th inning against the Diamondbacks, blowing a 5-3 lead.
After striking out Scott Hairston to start the inning, Gagne gave up a single to Shea Hillenbrand, a double to Luis Gonzalez, and a single to Chad Tracy. And just like that, the streak was over.
Interestingly enough, Gagne's last blown save was way back on August 26, 2002 ... against these same Arizona Diamondbacks.
Vin Scully, as usual, put it best: "So, Eric Gagne comes back to join the rest of us mere mortals ... for the moment."
