Thursday, December 28, 2006THT Editor PositionsPosted by Bryan TsaoJust wanted to write a quick note to all the people who have been proactive enough to send followup emails in regards to the THT Editor positions we have open. We are reading through the very impressive emails we've gotten from all of you, but it is a time consuming process and no decisions have been made yet. I expect that we'll be in contact with all of you before the end of the first week of January. Thank you for your patience. Friday, December 22, 2006Happy Holidays from THTPosted by Bryan TsaoHappy holidays everyone! THT will be taking a break next Monday, but will be back with new articles from the gang starting Tuesday, Dec. 26. Only seven weeks until pitchers and catchers report! And don't forget to get your applications in if you're interested in working for us. Friday, December 15, 2006Right and Wrong With MLB TodayPosted by Steve TrederStudes and I were both delighted this week to be invited by THT's pal Maury Brown to contribute to a feature on today's Biz of Baseball. A total of 30 writers, analysts, and executives each weigh in with their observations regarding "What's Right and Wrong with MLB Today." It's an intriguing read, and we thank Maury for including us. Wednesday, December 13, 2006SI: Matsuzaka Signs for $52 million, 6 YearsPosted by Bryan TsaoIf this rumor is true, it means that Daisuke Matsuzaka will be getting considerably less money than Boras' rumored asking price of $20 million per year. In fact, using the methodology developed by THT's David Gassko, the present day value of that contract is only $41.5 million, or a measly $6.9 million per season. In contrast, Gil Meche's five-year, $55 million deal signed just days earlier is worth $45.9 million—for one less year. Johan Santana, whose service time situation more closely approximated Matsuzaka's, signed a four-year, $40 million extension last offseason that's worth $42.2 million total, or $10.5 million per year. Thursday, December 07, 2006Aaron Interviews GardenhirePosted by Dave StudemanIt's a coming-of-age story that says tons about the Internet when Aaron Gleeman represents a major media outlet and interviews Twins manager Ron Gardenhire at the winter meetings. You may know that Aaron, the co-founder of the Hardball Times, was rejected for a sports writing gig for his college newspaper, worked out his frustration by becoming just about the most prolific baseball blogger around, dropped out of college, and now writes for NBCSports.com. Congratulations, Aaron. May bloggers everywhere gain inspiration from your story. Tuesday, December 05, 2006THT Annual ShippingPosted by Bryan TsaoThe first THT Annuals have finally shipped, and is now available from Amazon.com and should be available at Barnes and Noble and Borders locations any day now. However, Amazon is currently showing a four to six week ship time. While the actual ship time for new orders should be much shorter, those who can't wait can order the Annual directly from our publisher, Acta Sports, and have it shipped within four to seven days. Friday, December 01, 2006THT Mailbag!Posted by Bryan TsaoCan't get enough of your favorite THT authors? Well, now you can reach our entire staff for our weekly mailbag column. So send in your questions, comments and snark to with your name and location and we'll publish the most interesting questions and responses. Because while Santa might not run a projection on your favorite Japanese player for Christmas, we just might. Arbitration TimePosted by Dave StudemanThe free agent season is in full swing, but some folks are starting to ask about arbitration too. If you're interested, here's a background article about the arbitration process. Maury Brown has a list of players who are eligible for arbitration this year on his blog and you might also find Sportsline's Player Movement Tracker helpful. |
