Monday, November 19, 2007Rule 5 DraftTuesday (Nov. 20) is the last day for teams to file their reserve lists for the major league club and all minor league levels. In other words, it is the last day to add Rule 5 draft-eligible players to the 40-man roster to protect them from being poached away by other clubs on the Dec. 6 draft date. After the success of Josh Hamilton, Joakim Soria and Jesus Flores in 2007, expect a few teams to be wary of leaving talented, draft-eligible High-A and Double-A players unprotected. John Jaso of the Rays and Gregorio Petit of the A's are just a few players I'd expect to see added to their teams' 40-man rosters before the deadline. Friday, November 09, 2007Ridiculous “Science”An article on the Newsweek website highlights a new psychological study (and I use that word lightly) that supposedly proves that players with the letter "K" in their initials are more likely to strikeout than other players.
