Davey Johnson speaks

Here's an interview with one of my baseball favorites, Davey Johnson. When asked who would be his number one pick for a new team, Davey said "Henry Aaron." Also, some good thoughts about Dwight Gooden and steroids.

Pat Jordan and Alex Belth

Rich Lederer has posted a great "roundtable discussion" with Pat Jordan and Alex Belth. Alex compiled a "best of..." book of Jordan's writing, and it's a sensational read. Pat Jordan is a terrific writer in general, and an even better sports writer. You really should buy this book. It's so good, I can say that even though I don't know you. Yeah, that good.

Nobody gives a…

Peter Gammons just related a fun story. Apparently, Bill Parcells and Mark Shapiro met at Scott Pioli's wedding (who was marrying Parcells's daughter). At the time, Shapiro was farm director for the Indians. Parcells asked him how things were going. Shapiro started talking about about his players and their injuries when Parcells interrupted him and said, "Nobody gives a ####."

Urban on the A’s

The best Oakland A's blog around, Athletics Nation, has a Q&A posted with MLB.com A's beat writer Mychael Urban. As you might expect, Urban primarily answers questions about the A's dealing Tim Hudson and Mark Mulder, and he gives some interesting insights. Urban also talks a little bit about his upcoming book on Oakland's "Big Three," which suddenly has a whole different meaning.

Also, the boys over at All-Baseball.com have a nice back-and-forth discussion about Oakland's wheeling and dealing.
