Rule 5 Draft

Posted by Jacob Jackson
Tuesday (Nov. 20) is the last day for teams to file their reserve lists for the major league club and all minor league levels. In other words, it is the last day to add Rule 5 draft-eligible players to the 40-man roster to protect them from being poached away by other clubs on the Dec. 6 draft date.

After the success of Josh Hamilton, Joakim Soria and Jesus Flores in 2007, expect a few teams to be wary of leaving talented, draft-eligible High-A and Double-A players unprotected. John Jaso of the Rays and Gregorio Petit of the A's are just a few players I'd expect to see added to their teams' 40-man rosters before the deadline.

Look for a preview of the Rule 5 draft here at THT in the next two weeks.
