THT's Fantasy Archives
Monday, August 27, 2012The daily grind: 8-27The Daily Grind provides daily match-up advice based on my every-morning waiver wire search. I welcome advice to help make this column more effective. Ownership rates are from Yahoo! The Fanduel picks are a mixture of Daily League specific advice and information for the more typical fantasy owner. Today's grindThe Fanduel Daily League Players of the Day are: Pitcher (to start): Brett Anderson is 31 percent owned and a complete wild card but his match-up against the Indians is at least favorable. Marco Estrada is widely available and he should have a good outing against the Cubs. Tyler Skaggs against the Reds is a rough match-up, but he's such an exciting pitcher that there's a chance it will work out anyway. Casey Kelly against the Braves doesn't quite earn my seal of approval, but it needs to be mentioned for those in keeper leagues. He's not available in the Yahoo player universe yet. Pitcher (bum): Jeff Francis against the new look Dodgers is always a candidate for a bad outing. That goes doubly for Liam Hendriks, although he just has to handle the Mariners' lineup. Daisuke Matsuzaka against the Royals should result in some run scoring as well. Hitter (power): Some bats with power include Brandon Moss and Raul Ibanez. I would make my usual recommendation of Todd Frazier, but at 66 percent ownership, I think it's time to we said our goodbyes to him. Hitter (speed): Cameron Maybin has a solid match-up and Rajai Davis is always a steady choice. Tomorrow's grindTommy Milone versus Zach McAllister gives the savvy streamer two options to choose from tomorrow. McAllister is more widely available. I usually avoid the Scott Diamond recommendation, but the Mariners are too juicy to pass up. It's worth mentioning that Diamond is the kind of pitcher who traditionally doesn't benefit much from facing bad lineups.
Carlos Gomez against Travis Wood is a tasty treat. Gomez has been a strong three category contributor, but his ownership rate has gone down since I looked about a week ago. Keeping with guys I recommend frequently, I like Andruw Jones and Ben Revere tomorrow. I'm also a fan of Domonic Brown's match-up. Reliever watchAlfredo Aceves had a bit of a meltdown when Andrew Bailey was allowed to close out their Friday win. That earned him a three-day team suspension and could have ended his reign entirely. Grant Balfour appears to be the top reliever in Oakland once again. The team has no stake in him long term, so look for closing opportunities to drift to others in the pen like Ryan Cook and Sean Doolittle, especially if the A's fall out of the Wild Card race. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
