Monday, February 01, 2010Umm… for serious?Posted by Derek Carty at 4:24pmJ.J. Putz (from CSNChicago, h/t Metsblog): When the trade went down last year, I never really had a physical with the Mets. I had the bone spur (in the right elbow). It was discovered the previous year in Seattle, and it never got checked out by any other doctors until I got to spring training... I knew that I wasn’t right. I wasn’t healthy. The toughest part was having to face the media and tell them that you feel fine, even though you know there’s something wrong and they don’t want you telling them that you’re banged up. How can an MLB team be run so poorly? This is a guy who spent 64 days on the DL the year before (three separate stints) and walked 5.44 batters per nine. How do you not make sure you're thorough with his injury analysis? Moral of the story: don't take anything for granted with the Mets, guys. Derek Carty, 23, has also been published by NBC's Rotoworld, Sports Illustrated, FOX Sports, and USA Today. This season, he'll be contributing to FanDuel and will be linking to all of his work at DerekCarty.com. In his three years competing in expert leagues, he has won 2 titles with 4 top three finishes, including a LABR NL title in 2009, making him the youngest person to ever win a major expert league title. Derek is a proud graduate of the MLB Scouting Bureau's Scout Development Program and is a firm believer in the importance of combining stats and scouting. He welcomes questions via e-mail, Facebook, or Twitter.

I don’t know about blocked, but fallen through, sure. Mike Lowell to Texas, if I’m remembering correctly, is a recent one. Posted 02/01 at 10:09 PM

And just when you thought the Mets couldn’t look any worse, this is revealed. On a side note, does anyone know the last time a trade was block because of a player failing his physical?
