  • If you live in Chicago, you have to try @DarkMatter2521 coffee. It's as good as intelligensia. (May 26)

  • @blak3ly Then drop Kuroda. I like Dunn a lot, though. Wainwright's the better option over Beachy IMO (May 26)

  • Lateral move IMO, but I am a shameless believer in Bedard. Like JMD too @Matt_Warden Bedard for James McDonald? (May 26)

UZR on game broadcast?

Posted by Derek Carty at 9:57pm

-- Not-at-all-rumor-or-news-related post --

So our good friend Mike Podhorzer IMed me earlier tonight while watching the Braves/Pirates game. He told me that the Braves announcers had mentioned MGL's UZR and UZR/150 and talked about finding stats at FanGraphs. I've heard announcers talk about slightly more advanced concepts on the air, but never anything like this. Incredible.

They mentioned Nyjer Morgan’s UZR. He indeed has led all of baseball, including every positon, in the stat, while ranking 2nd in UZR/150. Take that Joe Morgan, a broadcasting team that actually gets their facts right! Morgan would have just talked about Morgan’s speed and hustle in the OF I’m sure.

Haha, thanks for jumping in Mike.  Morgan has been fantastic, I think it’s awesome that the announcers are using UZR to highlight that.
