Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldTom Glavine became the 23rd pitcher in baseball history to win 300 career games, beating the Cubs with 6.1innings of two-run ball Sunday night. With his parents on hand and ESPN panning to his attractive blond wife seemingly every 10 seconds, Glavine became just the fifth left-hander to join the 300-win club, tying Lefty Grove and Early Wynn for 22nd place on the all-time list. Glavine exited with a two-run lead thanks in part to his own RBI single, and the Mets tacked on three late runs on the way to an 8-3 victory. Next up for the two-time Cy Young winner and future Hall of Famer are Mickey Welch (307), Hoss Radbourn (309) and Tom Seaver (311), although moving beyond 21st place may require pitching another season.
Alfonso Soriano is expected to miss two to four weeks after suffering a strained right quadriceps Sunday night. "It's going to be a tough loss. I don't know what we'll do," manager Lou Piniella said. "Losing Soriano is the toughest thing about this home stand." With Soriano out, the Cubs may choose to recall prospect Felix Pie from Triple-A. If not, Matt Murton and Mike Fontenot figure to pick up playing time, with Mark DeRosa potentially sliding to the outfield more often. Losing Soriano is a huge blow to the Cubs, who are one game back of the Brewers in the NL Central. Soriano has hit .297 with 18 homers, 42 RBI, 74 runs, 18 steals and an .847 OPS in 105 games.
Erik Bedard improved to 12-4 after holding the Devil Rays to three runs in 6.2 innings of work on Sunday. Bedard also struck out 11 batters in the contest, bringing his major league leading total to 192. The only pitcher in the majors within 30 strikeouts of Bedard is Johan Santana, highlighting just how dominant the left-hander has been. Today's outing also gave Bedard wins in six straight outings and eight consecutive decisions. He'll get the Red Sox next time out.
Hideki Matsui belted his 100th homer in the major leagues when he took Royals starter Gil Meche deep for a solo blast in the third inning on Sunday. Matsui later added a sacrifice fly, giving him 78 RBI on the season. The left fielder is coming off an outstanding July in which he batted .345 and smacked 13 homers and it doesn't look like he's ready to slow down just yet. Matsui is nine homers shy of his United States season-high of 31 homers, set back in 2004.
Miguel Cabrera left Sunday's game against the Astros after being hit on the left elbow with a pitch from Matt Albers in the third inning. The ball hit Cabrera on his elbow armor, but he displayed signs of pain before eventually walking down to first base. However, Cabrera then didn't come out to play defense after the inning was over. He's day-to-day.

Game of the Day
Trailing 6-1 in the top of the ninth inning, the Phillies staged a remarkable comeback to beat the Brewers, 8-6 in 11 innings. The Brewer bullpen imploded in the ninth, allowing a two-run homer by Jayson Werth and then frittering the game away with two walks, a hit batter, an infield single and finally a key error by third baseman Ryan Braun.
