Francisco Rodriguez blew his first save of the season against the Yankees on Friday night thanks to a dropped pop-up by Luis Castillo.
The Mets keep inventing fun ways to lose baseball games. This one was a doozy. With Derek Jeter on second base and two outs, the Mets decided to intentionally walk Mark Teixeira in order to face Alex Rodriguez. It appeared the strategy was successful, as A-Rod popped the ball up to shallow right-center field, however Luis Castillo flat out dropped it. Both runners hustled the entire way and scored easily to secure a dramatic 9-8 win. Rodriguez is now 16-for-17 in save opportunities.

Jake Peavy may be out for as long as 12 weeks, according to Padres trainer Todd Hutcheson.
An MRI revealed longitudinal tearing in the posterior tibialis tendon in his right ankle. Translation: it isn't good. He will be wearing a cast for at least a month and the medical staff will then re-evaluate the ankle at that time.

Tommy Hanson picked up his first major league victory, allowing two runs over 5 2/3 innings in a 7-2 win over the Orioles on Friday night.
It didn't come easy though, as Hanson faced trouble in every inning. He gave up nine hits and walked five, throwing 60 of 104 pitches for strikes. He struck out five in the win. Hanson has a 6.17 ERA and 1.80 WHIP through his first two major league starts. The best is yet to come.

Roy Halladay left his start Friday in the fourth inning because of a groin injury.
Halladay, who was trying for victory No. 11, gave up one run and five hits before departing after throwing his second pitch of the fourth inning. If Halladay has to miss some time, the Jays could call up Brett Cecil to replace him.

Scott Kazmir threw 44 pitches in a simulated game Friday afternoon.
Kazmir said he felt good afterward. His next stop is a minor-league rehab start in five days.

Mets placed RHP John Maine on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 7, with shoulder weakness.
Maine's discomfort wasn't getting worse, but wasn't getting better. No timetable on his return yet, though Maine is hoping to miss the minimum amount of time. Fernando Nieve will make Maine's scheduled start on Saturday.

Tigers placed RHP Jeremy Bonderman on the 15-day disabled list with for "continued rehabilitation from thoracic outlet compression syndrome."
Translation: the Tigers were very disappointed in Monday's outing, and Bonderman isn't ready to contribute. This means Dontrelle Willis gets a reprieve, and stays in the rotation for now.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
