Orioles placed LHP Erik Bedard on the 60-day disabled list with a strained oblique.
So, the bad news is that his season is over. The good news for some of his owners is that now he'll at least be able to be replaced on fantasy rosters. That's because the Orioles needed to make room for Victor Zambrano on the 40-man. Bedard finishes the year 13-5 with a 3.16 ERA and 221 strikeouts in 182 innings. He seemed a lock to lead the majors in strikeouts before he got hurt. Now it will come down to Jake Peavy (210) and Johan Santana (203).

Derek Jeter will miss at least one game Sunday with a right knee tendinitis.
He's considered day-to-day, and Jeter will probably push to return to the lineup early in the week. Alberto Gonzalez will start at shortstop tomorrow.

Alex Rodriguez set the all-time single-season record for homers by a third baseman with two blasts off the Royals' Brian Bannister in Saturday's 11-5 win.
A-Rod has six homers in four games. His first tonight gave him 50 for the third time in his career, making him the first Yankee to reach that mark since Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle in 1961. His second was his 49th as a third baseman (he has two as a DH), breaking the record held by Mike Schmidt (1980) and Adrian Beltre (2004). A-Rod also holds the record for most homers by a shortstop with 57 in 2002. Maybe he should insist on playing second base next year to give him something else to shoot for.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
