Akinori Iwamura, who tore his ACL in late May, is hoping to return to the Rays in six-to-eight weeks.
Iwamura underwent surgery on the ligament Monday, and Rays orthopedist Dr. Koco Eaton was able to make the repairs in an arthroscopic procedure rather than reconstructive surgery, as was originally planned. It's still a tough injury to bounce back from, so we shouldn't get our hopes up.

Mets placed outfielder Carlos Beltran on the 15-day disabled list with a bruised right knee.
Another Met bites the dust. The club was hoping Beltran could play through the discomfort, but he underwent an MRI Monday morning that must have revealed something troubling. We'll update when we learn exactly what the team physicians found. Fernando Martinez and Jeremy Reed are expected to fill in.

According to ESPN.com, MLBPA executive director Donald Fehr has decided to step down.
Fehr has held the position since 1986, leading the MLB players union through the 1994 strike and, more recently, steroid investigations. Once the board approves the move and an official announcement is made, Fehr will be replaced by general counsel Michael Weiner.

Alex Gonzalez underwent successful surgery Monday to remove bone chips from his right elbow.
Gonzalez is expected to miss four-to-five weeks. Jerry Hairston and Paul Janish are expected to fill in for Gonzalez, who was batting .214/.256/.302 with two home runs and 20 RBI in 182 at-bats.

Ervin Santana threw 43 pitches in the bullpen before Sunday's game and reported no pain or discomfort in his right forearm.
Santana is on track to start Tuesday against the Rockies. "Everything is feeling good," he said after Sunday's throwing session. "Before, I was feeling a little bit of pain, and now I feel nothing." The 26-year-old right-hander is 1-3 this season with a 7.47 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP.

Grady Sizemore is hoping to be activated from the disabled list Tuesday.
Sizemore has been sidelined since May 30 with elbow inflammation. He threw from 105 feet on Friday and can hit freely, without pain or discomfort. "I just want to get back on the field," he said Sunday. "My elbow feels good. I haven't had any setbacks, but we're only going to find out how it really is by playing every day." The outfielder will return to a .223 batting average, nine home runs and 31 RBI.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
