Player News
Player news items are provided by RotoworldDerek Jeter should be ready to play by Tuesday at the latest, manager Joe Torre said after Saturday's game.
Jeter left in the eighth inning with a strained hip. He's questionable to play Sunday in the series finale against the Giants.
Phillies placed RHP Jon Lieber on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 21, with a ruptured tendon in his right foot.
Lieber won't be back before September if he returns at all. The Phillies could call up J.A. Happ or even Carlos Carrasco to start in his place next week. They still have no plans to put Brett Myers back into the rotation, so they need to trade for a starting pitcher.
The White Sox likely will place Jermaine Dye on the DL and recall Ryan Sweeney prior to Sunday's game.
Dye aggravated his strained quad Friday and wasn't even available as a pinch-hitter today, so it looks like he's going to need a couple of weeks off. Sweeney will likely play fairly regularly in his place. He could also see time in center when the White Sox use Rob Mackowiak in right field.
Justin Morneau will spend a second night in the hospital after being examined by a specialist on Saturday.
Morneau was expected to be released today, but he's being kept as a precaution. The Twins remain optimistic that he'll be on the team flight home from Florida following Sunday's game and that he won't go on the DL with a bruised lung.
Ryan Dempster was unavailable on Saturday because of a strained oblique suffered Friday.
The Cubs said nothing about the injury before the game. Dempster is expected to avoid the disabled list and resume pitching at some point over the next week. Bob Howry will close in his place.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
