Love of the game - A career minor leaguer's poignant account of meeting a special fan.
Love and baseball - Ian Kennedy might have a tough decision to make regarding whether or not to pitch in the ALDS.
Lottery ticket - The guy who caught Barry Bonds' record-breaking home run is hoping that it will be worth $500,000. The auction for the ball, which closes on Sept. 15, currently has a high bid of under $200,000.
Tough loss - The Good Phight responds to Philly's devastating loss yesterday by ripping Charlie Manuel.
Clemens 'roids - Roger CLemens received a cortisone shot that should allow him to pitch down the stretch for the wild card contending Yankees.
Throwing in the towel - Dave Cameron and the Mariners faithful over at U.S.S. Mariner reflect on their season, as do the guys over at Lookout Landing.
Backup plan - Who else had forgotten completely about Matt Clement? But he's been rehabbing for the Red Sox, and could be back before the end of the season.

Player News
Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldAlex Rodriguez, expected to be held out of the lineup with a sprained ankle, clouted two homers as part of an eight-run seventh to lead the Yanks to a big 10-2 win over Seattle. A-Rod talked his way into the lineup and then delivered in a big way, becoming the first Yankee with two dingers in an inning since Cliff Johnson did it on June 30, 1977. He opened the inning with a solo shot and wrapped it with a two-run blast, giving him 134 RBI. He's enjoyed 51 multiple home run games in his career.
Carlos Pena mashed two homers and drove in seven runs Wednesday to lead Tampa Bay over Baltimore 17-2. Apparently, Ray Lewis was out of the lineup for Baltimore. Things are getting so silly for the O's lately, there's really not much to say. But Pena was the story tonight, hitting a sac fly, a grand slam and a two-run homer. He drew two walks and scored four times. Pena has extended the franchise record for home runs to 37 and is up to 105 RBI -- also a career best.
The Red Sox will leave Manny Ramirez at home when they travel to Baltimore for a four-game series that begins Thursday. Ramirez has already missed a week because of the injury. Fortunately, Jacoby Ellsbury is looking like a more-than-capable replacement in left field.
The Mets expect Carlos Delgado to miss 7-10 days because of a strained hip flexor. That seems a little excessive, but they can play it safe if they want. Shawn Green and Jeff Conine will fill in at first base, opening up at-bats in right field for Endy Chavez and Lastings Milledge.
Carl Crawford will get a two-game suspension for his actions during Monday's game. It's deserved, though first-base umpire Paul Nauert also deserves to be punished for missing such an obvious call. Expect Crawford to appeal the suspension and serve it later this month.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
