Pedro Martinez shut out the Mets for eight innings to earn a win in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.
Martinez allowed six hits, walked two and struck out seven against a Mets team that showed no interest in bringing him back after last season. While he's definitely had luck on his side, he's now 5-0 with a 2.87 ERA for the Phillies. The only two starts he didn't win were the ones he had cut short by rain delays, and the Phillies ended up prevailing in both of those.

The Giants confirmed Sunday that Tim Lincecum (back) will pitch Monday against the Rockies.
Lincecum had a successful bullpen session Saturday, but the Giants wanted to see how he felt Sunday morning before officially clearing him to pitch. The 25-year-old missed his last start with back spasms.

Jake Peavy was very encouraged by his throwing session Sunday, and he appears likely to join the White Sox rotation next weekend against the Royals.
"I think today was the best we've been since I've been on the mound," Peavy said. "I'm starting to get there. I'm excited about it. I know who I can be, and it's been frustrating to get there and jump right in and not ease into things. Its been different than what I've done in years past. Today was certainly the best I've been and felt and hopefully that progresses." He'll likely throw again Tuesday or Wednesday and then start Friday or Saturday.

Alfonso Soriano said Sunday that he hopes to have arthroscopic knee surgery early this week.
It's supposed to be a relatively minor procedure, one that Soriano might recover from within a month. "I'm going to stay with the team and rehab the knee," he said. "I'm going to stay with the team trainers, and work on getting the knee strong. Then, I'll go to the Dominican Republic after the season ends and do a lot of leg work, [and] be ready for next season."

Bob Elliot of the Toronto Sun reports that the Red Sox offered the Blue Jays six pitchers for Roy Halladay at the trading deadline.
The names: Daniel Bard, Michael Bowden, Clay Buchholz, Felix Doubront, Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson. That's quite an impressive array of names, and it's shocking Toronto didn't snap it up. The scout that revealed this deal said the Jays had difficulty projecting Masterson's future, and -- probably most important --- "the Jays were worried about Halladay beating them next year." Obviously, Masterson and Hagadone are no longer with the Sox club so it's unlikely a deal could be reached in the offseason. If it's going to take more than that package to land Halladay, GM J.P. Ricciardi won't find any takers.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
