Ryan Braun left Monday night's game after suffering a "relapse" with the rib injury that sidelined him last week.
Braun appeared to hurt himself swinging and missing at a Doug Brocail pitch. The team says the injury is just muscle tightness and not a strain, but it certainly appears that Braun returned before completely healing. "I'll see how he feels tomorrow, but this is something that I'm not really interested in playing around with," Brewers manager Ned Yost said. " I'm not going to sit and go through this every night."

Justin Duchscherer (hip) will fly to Oakland to be examined by the team orthopedist on Tuesday.
Duchscherer came out of Monday night's game with pain in his right hip - the same side he had season-ending surgery on last season. He said that he felt the pain in his last start, too, but hopes it's just inflammation and can be soothed with a cortisone shot. He'll likely miss at least a couple starts, depending on the severity of his diagnosis, with Kirk Saarloos a candidate to fill in.

B.J. Upton was tagged out while jogging on the basepaths again on Monday.
Awesome. He's like the Chuck Knoblauch of baserunning: he just can't hustle! Upton hit a ball that he thought was a homer, and trotted out of the box. The ball hit the wall, though, and Upton jogged to second. Mark Teixeira followed him and caught the relay throw, tagging Upton out before he got to the base. Upton was left in the game on Monday, and finished 2-for-5.

Rangers placed infielder Ian Kinsler on the 15-day disabled list.
After undergoing an MRI, Kinsler was diagnosed with a sports hernia, and could be facing season-ending surgery. He'll meet with a specialist on Tuesday. "I hope I can avoid surgery, but the way it is right now, it's pretty bad, pretty sore, and I can't play," Kinsler said.

The Los Angeles times reports the Dodgers have acquired Greg Maddux from the Padres.
Maddux cleared waivers, but Los Angeles was the only place he'd agree to go. It's unknown what Los Angeles gave up. He's just 6-9, and while that comes with a 3.99 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP, Maddux has a 5.75 ERA away from Petco. Still, he was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA pitching for the Dodgers back in 2006. He'll likely fill the rotation spot of Brad Penny.

Matt LaPorta is day-to-day after being hit on the helmet at the Olympics on Monday.
LaPorta was taken to the hospital for precautionary tests which came back negative, and he then rode the bus back to the Olympic Village with his teammates. Indians GM Mark Shapiro said earlier that he'd need to spend at least a day in the hospital, but the severity of the injury seems to have been overestimated.

Mets acquired RHP Luis Ayala from the Nationals in exchange for a player to be named later.
Ayala requested the trade a couple of weeks ago and the PTBNL is expected to be Anderson Hernandez, a light-hitting infielder who projects as a utility man long term. Ayala was 1-8 with a 5.77 ERA in 57 2/3 innings for the Nats this season, but he posted ERAs of 2.69, 2.66 and 3.19 over his previous three seasons. He's leaving behind some personal issues and could help the Mets' struggling bullpen.

Hideki Matsui (knee) played a simulated game at the Yankees' spring training complex Saturday and, according to manager Joe Girardi, could be activated as soon as Tuesday.
Matsui has been out since late June. The Yankees start an important series against the Blue Jays on Tuesday.

Tom Glavine has been ruled out for this season, and expects to need surgery after meeting with Dr. James Andrews this week.
"I would be surprised, if not shocked, if he doesn't tell me I need to get it [the elbow] fixed," Glavine said. He reportedly has a torn flexor tendon in his left elbow, and said he would need 3-4 months of rehab and then he'd be able to decide if he wanted to attempt a comeback. If Dr. Andrews says he needs Tommy John surgery, he'd retire without undergoing the procedure.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
