Player News
Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldThe Dodgers have reportedly placed Rafael Furcal on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 6, with a strained lower back. The Dodgers are trying to acquire a replacement for Furcal. If they can't pull it off, they'll call up Luis Maza from Triple-A on Tuesday. Even if the Dodgers do pick up a veteran, Chin-Lung Hu figures to get most of the starts at shortstop. Juan Pierre will probably continue to play a lot more than Andre Ethier, as manager Joe Torre simply can't bare the thought of playing without a "true" leadoff hitter.
Fausto Carmona hurled his second career shutout as the Indians beat the Blue Jays 3-0 in the first game of Monday's doubleheader. The Blue Jays have gone 22 innings without scoring and now get to face Cliff Lee tonight. Carmona walked four batters for the seventh time in eight starts this season, but he still managed to get through the game using just 108 pitches. Even with his bizarre 18/35 K/BB ratio, he's third in the American League with a 2.40 ERA. Of course, the WHIP crown is going to be out of reach.
The MRI taken on Alex Rodriguez's strained right quad didn't show enough healing to get him cleared to play in rehab games. A return this week has been ruled out. A-Rod was hoping to return from the DL when eligible on Thursday, but he won't play against the Mets this weekend. It's still possible that he'll return next week, but the Yankees will be extra careful since he's already aggravated the strain once. "We can’t afford to have him come back for two days then lose him for six weeks," manager Joe Girardi said. "We want to have him fully healed."
Mark Teixeira left Monday's game in the fourth inning due to back spasms. Greg Norton replaced him at first base in the first game of the doubleheader versus the Pirates.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Game of the Day
The second game of yesterday’s Toronto/Cleveland doubheader was a beaut. Shaun Marcum and Cliff Lee exchanged goose eggs for most of the game, with Marcum pitching eight shutout inning and Lee going nine (and lowering his ERA to 0.67!). The highlight was Asdrubal Cabrera’s unassisted triple play off Lyle Overbay’s line drive in the fifth. The Blue Jays finally won it in the tenth, 3-0, with three singles, an intentional walk, a sacrifice and a sacrifice fly off Rafael Betancourt.Blue Jays 3, Indians 0 - FINAL
