Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldThe Rangers announced after Friday's game that they've fired pitching coach Mark Connor and bullpen coach Dom Chiti.
Triple-A Oklahoma pitching coach Andy Hawkins will take over for Connor, while Pacific Rim scouting coordinator Jim Colborn steps in as the bullpen coach. Connor just was never given a whole lot to work with during his time in Texas. The Rangers have nine pitchers on the disabled list, but we're not sure Connor deserves any of the blame for that. The only one that's legitimately been mishandled is Eric Hurley.
Hitting seventh in his White Sox debut, Ken Griffey Jr. contributed a pair of RBI singles and a walk to help the team beat the Royals 4-2 on Friday.
The Reds' insistence on keeping Griffey in the third spot in the lineup no matter what had turned into a real joke. Fortunately, the White Sox looked at the hitter he is now and put him where he belonged in their order. With Griffey in center field tonight, the White Sox put Nick Swisher at first base and Paul Konerko on the bench. It's likely the arrangement they'll keep using against righties.
Mike Lowell was removed from Friday's game because of a strained right hip.
Even if the Red Sox think Lowell will need just a couple of days off, they may have to send down Chris Smith and call up another infielder, probably Joe Thursday. Jed Lowrie would shift to third, with Alex Cora starting at shortstop.
Josh Hamilton left Friday's game after six innings with light-headedness.
Consider him day-to-day. Brandon Boggs took his spot against the Blue Jays.

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
