The New York Daily News reports that the initial estimate for Billy Wagner's return is three weeks from now.
The team hasn't set a timetable yet, but Wagner's arm has actually been getting worse. The plan for now is to take anti-inflammatory medicine and rest, but he'll still "sprinkle in" the occasional game of catch. Once he's pain free, he'll begin a throwing program to build up strength before returning.

Red Sox optioned RHP Clay Buchholz to Double-A Portland.
The Red Sox likely would have skipped his next start anyway, and with the minor league season ending in a week and a half, the team wants him to have a couple of chances to gain some confidence. He'll be back in September, but might not rejoin Boston's rotation.

Hanley Ramirez is day-to-day after leaving Wednesday's game with a right thumb contusion.
Ramirez's thumb appeared to be hit by a ball when stealing second base in the third, and after having team trainers look at his hand, he decided to stay in the game. In the bottom of the fourth, though, he was replaced in the field by Alfredo Amezaga.

Mets signed RHP Al Reyes to a Minor League contract.
Reyes will make a couple minor league appearances to get back in shape before being promoted to help the big league club. He had a 4.37 ERA with a 19/10 K/BB ratio in Tampa Bay this year, but he has a 3.82 career ERA and saved 26 games for the Rays last season. He could be in the mix at closer before long.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
