It's Hall of Fame day here at THT in honor of, well, I'm not sure exactly. But, hey, it's Friday and what better day to celebrate anything than a Friday, am I right?

Mariners Cease Baseball Operations, Become Traveling Drought Solvers - The Mariners have completed five games and have now had five games postponed. Here's hoping they stay far away from my city.

Speaking of Inclement Weather - Did you know the Minnesota Twins are finally getting a new ballpark? Did you know that they don't plan on building a roof? Hmmm. Pretty drawing though.

Stop the Presses! - In a shocking development that no one ever expects to hear, Jaret Wright has been put on the DL with shoulder issues. My whole world has turned upside down, what's next; Carl Pavano not being the rock in the Yankees rotation, Mike Hampton's legendary elbow finally breaking down? Wait, what's that you say? Nooooooo..

You're Killing Me - No, really? Mark Prior leaves mound with shoulder pain? Where's my surprised face? Can we get stem cell research allowed so these players can get new ligaments?

Too Much 42 - Is the popularity of wearing 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson on April 15th watering down the honor itself? Some players think so.

Best Homerun Buddies - Talking Chop has the list of the top pairs of teammates who both homered in the same game. The duo atop the list is no surprise.

MLB Trade Value Index (Sorta) - Dave Cameron of USS Mariner borrows an idea from Bill Simmons and ranks the most valuable commodities in baseball. He might be a little biased, but after Wednesday, who knows.

Friday at THT

Is it the NL/AL Hall of Fame or... - ... the baseball Hall of Fame?

Legends Among Us: American League Pitchers - Picking up where he left off on Wednesday, Jeff looks at the future Hall of Famers taking the mound in the junior circuit.

This Annotated Week in Baseball History: April 8-14, 1897 - On April 10, 1897, Ross Youngs was born. By the time he was 21, he was a major league regular. Just more than 10 years later, Youngs was dead. In that short time, however, he managed to construct a career deemed worthy of the Hall of Fame.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.

Troy Glaus won't play Friday and is due to have his sore left heel examined. If Glaus needs surgery to remove a bone spur, he'd likely miss at least a month. That's something the Jays would like to avoid given their lack of depth at third base. They could call up John Hattig and have him share time with Jason Smith and John McDonald if Glaus goes on the DL.

Orioles placed RHP Jaret Wright on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 11, with right shoulder soreness. Congratulations to those that had April 12 in the pool. Jeremy Guthrie is the top candidate to start in place of Wright on Sunday, assuming he isn't needed in relief on Friday or Saturday. If Guthrie won't be available, the Orioles could reach down to the minors for an alternative.

Mark Prior had to leave his extended spring start after two innings Thursday because of shoulder soreness and is scheduled to see Dr. Lewis Yocum. It figures. Prior seemed to making progress during the second half of the spring, but it was clear he wasn't completely right after the Cubs decided not to send him to Triple-A to begin the year. It might already be time to write him off for 2007.

Padres placed catcher Josh Bard on the 15-day disabled list with a groin strain. He was injured during Wednesday's game. Rob Bowen will get most of the starts behind the plate while Bard is sidelined, and Khalil Greene and Kevin Kouzmanoff figure to move up in the order. Pete Laforest was recalled to serve as a backup.

Manager Buddy Bell indicated Wednesday that Joakim Soria will likely take over as the Royals' closer until Octavio Dotel returns from the disabled list. "They don’t take good swings off of him," Bell said. "For me, that’s the determining factor of whether a guy has the stuff (to close) or not. It’s not so much 95 or 98. It’s what kind of swings are guys taking?" Despite being a Rule 5 pick, Soria should be owned in all leagues and will have value for the rest of this month if Dotel's timetable gets pushed back again.
