Player News
Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldChipper Jones was scratched from Atlanta's lineup Saturday after he was bothered by spasms in the middle of his back.
With Yunel Escobar also out, the Braves have called up Brent Lillibridge to start at shortstop and moved Martin Prado over to third. Jones is day-to-day.
Mark Buehrle will pitch the second half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Orioles.
Buehrle pitched an inning on Friday, so it was thought that he'd be unavailable on Saturday. He apparently pleaded with manager Ozzie Guillen and pitching coach Don Cooper to let him make the evening start. If the outing goes well, it will be a relief for the White Sox who won't have to call up a starter or push Javier Vasquez up in the rotation. Vasquez will now pitch his scheduled start Monday.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Bartolo Colon has assured the Red Sox that he will not exercise his May 1 opt-out clause.
Colon could be pitching in a rehab game by May 5. He will throw long toss at 170 feet today and has a bullpen session scheduled for Monday.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland said Carlos Guillen (bruised leg) could return to the lineup Saturday.
Guillen had missed two games after fouling a ball of his leg Wednesday.
Michael Bourn (groin) expects to be in the starting lineup Saturday.
Bourn played the final inning of Friday's game in center field. He is hitting only .216 but has 13 stolen bases and ten runs scored.
Mosies Alou's rehab has been put on hold because of a sore right ankle.
Alou is recovering from a hernia and was supposed to play for Single-A St. Lucie Friday night. He should resume the rehab in a day or two.
Keith Foulke (neck) has begun playing catch at a distance of 80 feet.
Foulke made 30 tosses Friday and said he felt OK. He is eligible to come off the disabled list Saturday but won't return until May 2.
Shane Victorino (calf) went 2-for-5 Friday with two walks and an RBI for Single-A Clearwater.
It's expected that Victorino will be in the Phillies' lineup when he's eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday.
Pirates manager John Russell said he's hoping Jack Wilson will be ready for the May 6-8 series against the Giants.
Wilson (calf) has been running and hitting at extended spring training and will begin a minor league rehab assignment in mid-to-late next week.

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
