Brian McCann (eye) has tentatively been penciled into the Braves' starting lineup on Tuesday.
McCann visited an eye specialist and received a new contact lens that appears to have eliminated the blurriness in his left eye. "I put the contact in, and it clears it up right away," McCann said. "I'm seeing good. It's a big relief." Manager Bobby Cox planned to make a final decision on McCann's status following batting practice.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Joey Devine had surgery on the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow Tuesday and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Specific details of the surgery have yet to be provided, but it appears to be safe to cut Devine loose in AL-only leagues. With Devine definitively out of the picture for 2009, Brad Ziegler has a solid chance to remain Oakland's closer all season.

Though Xavier Nady won't need surgery on his injured right elbow, he is expected to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with a partial ligament tear.
An earlier report indicated that he could miss up to a month, but now it appears that a month is the earliest he would be able to return to action. When he does return, he may do so as a DH in order to relieve his elbow from the strain of throwing, and to provide some insurance for Hideki Matsui, who continues to be troubled by his surgically repaired knees.

Pirates placed catcher Ryan Doumit on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with a fracture of the scaphoid bone in his right wrist.
He's scheduled for surgery on Thursday and is expected to be sidelined for 8-10 weeks. Obviously this news is far worse than anticipated for fantasy owners, as it initially appeared that Doumit might only miss a handful of games after injuring himself on Sunday. Robinzon Diaz, who lost out on a shot to be Doumit's backup during spring training, is taking his place on the active roster. Jason Jaramillo figures to get the bulk of the starts, but he'll have little fantasy value.

Angels recalled infielder Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake.
It remains to be seen how the Angels will deploy him, but the power-hitting infielder is a must-add in AL-only leagues and someone to watch closely in deeper mixed leagues. Not only does Wood have 3B and SS eligibility in many formats, but he also possesses legitimate power -- he was hitting .346 with four homers and eight RBI in Triple-A at the time of his callup.

Standings

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Other team graphs and stats can be found on our Team Page.
