Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldBrandon Phillips suffered a broken right index finger in the same at-bat in which he delivered a go-ahead single Tuesday and is likely to miss the rest of the season. Phillips apparently injured the finger on a bunt attempt before later driving in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning. A season-ending injury for Phillips isn't the worst thing for the Reds. He was hitting a pedestrian .261/.312/.442 in a pretty disappointing season, and now the team can take a look at Danny Richar and try to figure out if he should fit into their 2009 plans somehow. Richar could be worth adding in NL-only leagues.
X-rays on Paul Konerko's knee were negative, and the White Sox are optimistic he only has a sprained MCL. An MRI is scheduled for Wednesday. "When I first came out, with what the doctor was doing with my leg, he felt real confident about it," Konerko said. "That it was just a nice little sprain. That I kinda pushed it past where it should go and that's it. I think the MRI is more for peace of mind." A sprain could still cost him a couple of weeks, but it would likely allow him to be available for the postseason.
Indians activated designated hitter Travis Hafner from the 60-day disabled list. With Hafner back and Victor Martinez still seeing little action behind the plate, Ryan Garko and David Dellucci figure to see quite a bit less playing time down the stretch. Dellucci, especially, hardly deserves to be used at this point. Not much should be expected from Hafner, but he has to be activate in AL-only leagues.
Mike Gonzalez blew his first save in 40 chances since June 25, 2004 by giving up a run Tuesday against the Rockies. Gonzalez had gone 183 appearances, most of them as a closer or a top setup man, without blowing a lead. In some ways, the streak was more impressive than Eric Gagne's. It never got any attention because he only has had one year of more than 10 saves and he missed a full season due to Tommy John surgery. Still, 183 appearances without blowing a lead is flat out incredible.

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Yesterday’s Home Runs
The following stats are provided by Hit Tracker, which logs the projected “true” distance of each home run (if it were to land uninterrupted at field level) and its "standard" distance, which is corrected for weather conditions. Each homer is also categorized into one of three types: Just Enough (JE) for homers that cleared the fence by ten feet or less, Plenty (PL) for those that were sure home runs but not “blasts,” and No Doubt (ND) for true “blasts”—homers that cleared the fence by at least 20 feet and landed at least 50 feet beyond the fence.Hitter Team Pitcher Team True Stnd. # Type Garrett Atkins COL Mike Gonzalez ATL 413 403 19 JE Jason Bay BOS Dan Wheeler TB 375 368 29 JE Carlos Beltran NYM Charlie Manning WAS 392 404 23 JE Lance Berkman HOU Ross Ohlendorf PIT 336 322 28 JE/L Jay Bruce CIN Jeff Suppan MIL 374 370 17 PL Jorge Cantu FLA Kyle Kendrick PHI 394 392 24 PL Ryan Church NYM John Lannan WAS 416 396 12 ND Johnny Damon NYY Ervin Santana LAA 387 384 14 JE Johnny Damon NYY Justin Speier LAA 396 393 13 PL Carlos Delgado NYM John Lannan WAS 448 411 34 ND Carlos Delgado NYM Charlie Manning WAS 413 404 33 ND Ray Durham MIL Jared Burton CIN 341 337 5 PL Edwin Encarnacion CIN Jeff Suppan MIL 375 371 25 JE Cristian Guzman WAS Oliver Perez NYM 348 311 7 JE Brad Hawpe COL Jorge Campillo ATL 412 402 23 PL Ryan Howard PHI Eulogio De La Cruz FLA 421 419 41 PL Chris Iannetta COL Jorge Campillo ATL 407 398 15 JE/L Mike Jacobs FLA J.A.
