The Pain of Waiting - For those following teams no longer in the playoff chase, the wait for the good parts of the offseason to begin can be painful.
Methinks This has Been Tried Before - The Pirates need to set and stick to a serious rebuilding plan in order to climb out of their hole. Forcing the issue is what got them here in the first place.
Juan Pierre's New Name - Rob McMillan proposes a new nickname for Juan Pierre, Slappy McPopup.
Making Room - It has been confirmed that the Rays have plans to move Akinoi Awamura to second base next season, in all likelihood to make room for Evan Longoria at third base.

Player News
Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldPirates named Neal Huntington their general manager. There were reports of a change of heart a couple of days ago, but the Pirates followed through and hired the 37-year-old Indians assistant. It will be interesting to see whether Huntington wants to go forward with Jim Tracy or bring in another manager. The Pirates could do better there.
23-year-old Prince Fielder became the youngest member of the 50-homer club when he went deep twice Tuesday in a 9-1 win over the Cards. Both were two-run shots. Fielder also walked twice. He has 11 homers, 22 RBI, 22 runs scored and 17 walks in 81 at-bats this month. That's an MVP-type finish, though it might not matter unless the Brewers advance to the playoffs. They're two games behind the Cubs.
Roger Clemens (hamstring) will not pitch again during the regular season after being scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday. Clemens still expects to be in the rotation for the ALDS. If he's not 100 percent, the Yankees might be better off with Phil Hughes in his spot. Still, manager Joe Torre will be sure to pitch him if he says he can go.
Adam Dunn will undergo surgery Wednesday to clean out his sore right knee. It's not a major operation, so this shouldn't have any impact on whether the Reds pick up his $13.5 million option for 2008. Dunn finishes up at .264/.386/.554 with 40 homers in 501 at-bats. Only in 2004 did he have a higher average and OPS. He's hit 40 homers in four straight seasons. The Reds would be crazy not to retain him.
Carl Crawford is done for the year because of his strained groin. Crawford finishes the season at .315/.355/.466 with 50 steals in 60 attempts. He struck out a career-high 112 times in 584 at-bats, but he finished with an OPS right in between his marks from 2005 (800) and 2006 (830).
Manny Ramirez (oblique) is back in left field for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. It will be his first appearance since Aug. 28. Oddly, Manny is going to bat second tonight for the first time since 1995. We're guessing the Red Sox are simply trying to get him one more at-bat before he's eventually removed from the game.

Standings
The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength. Game of the Day
The Padres were within one out of losing their fifth game in a row, but a home run by Brian Giles capped a four-run ninth inning, resulting in a 6-5 victory over the Giants. Coupled with Philadelphia’s loss, San Diego now has a one-game lead in the wildcard race over the Phillies and Colorado.SAN DIEGO (6) VS SAN FRANCISCO (4) - FINAL
