Player Headlines are courtesy of RotoworldBrian McCann's ongoing eye problems are expected to land him on the disabled list Saturday.
The Braves have called catcher Clint Sammons from Class AAA Gwinnett in anticipation of the likely McCann move to the DL. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow, but I don't think it'll change," manager Bobby Cox said of McCann's condition. McCann is expected to see another eye specialist next week and could wind up having Lasik surgery. David Ross will continue to see more at bats in McCann's absence.
Joe Mauer (back) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI Friday for Single-A Fort Myers in the first game of his rehab assignment.
He caught seven innings in the contest. Mauer is scheduled to play six games in the minors before rejoining the Twins on May 1.
The Diamondbacks said after Friday's game that Brandon Webb would be shut down for three weeks after his latest shoulder setback.
Arizona is still maintaining that no MRIs have revealed any structural damage, but this seems like a big step to take if that truly was the case. That Webb will go three weeks without throwing suggests that it will be six weeks before he's back starting for the Diamondbacks, even if there are no additional problems. Yusmeiro Petit should have some value in NL-only leagues in the meantime.
The Yankees will place Chien-Ming Wang on the DL prior to Saturday's game.
No word yet on what injury they've made up, but MLB really doesn't care much about that kind of thing. David Robertson will be recalled to add some bullpen depth for the weekend, and Phil Hughes will probably be brought up to start in Wang's place next week.
Braves placed OF Garret Anderson on 15-day disabled list with a strained left quadriceps muscle.
Anderson's injury woes continue. Brandon Jones was recalled from Triple-A to take Anderson's place on the roster. Jones was hitting .308 in the minors, and should get another look from the Braves.

The graphics next to each team are called "sparklines.” They depict each team’s performance over the last month. Each "up" bar is a victory and a "down" bar is a loss. There are horizontal lines for home games and red bars represent games decided by two runs or less. "PWins" is short for Projected Wins, based on each team’s Run Differential, and is often a better measure of a team’s true strength.
