THT Links: Weekend roundup
by Bryan TsaoJanuary 28, 2008
Orioles deny Bedard to Mariners - Orioles general manager Andy MacPhail insists that no deal has been reached despite Mariners center fielder Adam Jones' statement saying he had been traded to the Orioles. Still, apparently both Jones and reliever George Sherill have taken physicals and the deal is just waiting on physicals. Dave Cameron over at USS Mariner doesn't like it one bit. Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman reports that the deal could precede a Brian Roberts to the Cubs deal.
MLB executive political donations - Maury Brown brings us the scoop on which MLB executives have donated what to presidential campaigns this year. Apparently baseball owners, including Arte Moreno, George Steinbrenner and Tom Hicks, love Rudy Giuliani.
Cano near deal - The Yankees are close to a deal with second baseman Robinson Cano that could keep him in the Bronx through 2013.
Knoblauch comes in - The former Yankees second baseman agrees to speak with Congressional investigators. No word on where he was last week.
Inge to report with catchers - Tigers third baseman will apparently attempt to move back behind the plate to accommodate new slugger Miguel Cabrera.
Lieberthal retires - His very good 14-year major league career comes to an end.
Twins extend Morneau, Cuddyer - Perhaps a sign that they are moving on, the Twins extended first baseman Justin Morneau and right fielder Michael Cuddyer to big money deals this weekend.
