Today at THT


You know, as soon as I made it known I was going to move my blog, The Sporting News offered me an insane amount of money. I left that offer open for weeks, mostly because my wife didn't want to move to North Carolina. Then I ran into Studeman in a Vegas hotel and told him that I'd really like to come to the Hardball Times, and the rest is history. Sure, the other bloggers got mad at me for not setting the market, but sometimes you just have to do what's right for your family.

  • Josh Kalk tries to figure out Javier Vazquez, going so far as to make some suggestions as to how to help him regain his old form and be a more effective pitcher. It's wonderful advice, but we must remember: the only way Javier is going to get better is if he wants to get better. We can merely offer him a comfort and supporting environment in which to do it. And Javier: we still love you, no matter how bad things get.


  • Steve Treder and Matthew Namee perpetrate a virtual coup, depose Harry Frazee, and imagine what would have happened if they had run the Red Sox between 1916 and 1925. I have total faith that they will turn the Sox into the team of the century by the time this is all said and done. In light of this, the second installment no doubt involves Red Sox Nation developing 40 years earlier, Roosevelt being defeated by Lindbergh in the 1936 election, and the course of history forever changed.


  • Over at Fantasy Focus, Paul Singman explores how your fantasy league can be affected by its owners knowing one another as opposed to it being some anonymous ESPN or Yahoo! affair. Personally, I find it easier to lie to friends than strangers, but your mileage may vary.
