Friday, April 03, 2009Ch-ch-ch-changesSo, something new is going to happen on Monday. I'm going to start writing for NBCSports.com.I'm not alone: it will be a group blog -- a small group -- called "Circling the Bases." I'll be joining Rotoworld's Aaron Gleeman and Matthew Pouliot. Given their experience, their readership and the amount and quality of their content over the years, I'm clearly going to be the Shemp of the group. But that's cool because Shemp had a pretty sweet gig. Maybe not as sweet as mine, though: in lieu of paying me in cash, I'm being paid in the form of the still-unreleaed Markie Post-era "Night Court" DVDs. I'm definitely coming out ahead on this one. I'll be handling morning drive, for lack of a better term, posting from roughly 8:30 AM -- 11:00 AM. Aaron has afternoons. Matt is the Venus Flytrap of the group, taking the magic carpet into the evening hours, my children. There will be regular content Monday-Friday, and some to-be-determined amount of weekend posting. As far as editorial voice goes, we've been told that we can do just about anything this side of dropping F-bombs and making fun of Bill Cosby's sweaters. Of course, given that we're all fairly boring guys, I can't imagine it getting too wild. And before you ask, no I can't give you the URL yet because I, um, don't know what it is. But before you get worried, know this: ShysterBall isn't going anywhere. I'll still be here bright and early every morning with the daily recaps and, while they may start showing up a bit later in the day than you've come to expect, I'll still be making far too many other posts about far too many baseball-related things in this space for the foreseeable future. NBC will be my job. THT is still my home. But probably not for the rest of the afternoon. I have to go to court today, and Federal Judges kind of frown on you blogging via Blackberry from the counsel table. Freakin' Luddites. Posted by Craig Calcaterra at 12:19pm Comments

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet. This is a great day for bloggers. And even more impressive than the gig, you managed to work in a Night Court, Markie Post, WKRP in Cincinnati, and Venus Flytrap reference, all while insulting Bill Cosby. All in one post. This is why you are our mentor and hero. If you could have worked in a Les Nessman line, I would have wet my pants. Posted 04/03 at 12:55 PM

Great! Now if you only convince the guys at NBC sports to make their e-mail forwards work, the world will be a beautiful place. Posted 04/03 at 01:03 PM

Good thing you’re getting the NBC gig, because “ShysterBall: Not Going Anywhere” is a terrible marketing slogan. Mucho congratulations. Posted 04/03 at 01:28 PM

I’ll still be lawyering because, while there is some $$ associated with this, it ain’t full time money. Yet. Posted 04/03 at 04:26 PM

Congrats, Craig. Just proves that if you beg and whine enough, someone is bound to give you a gig. Posted 04/03 at 04:41 PM

What you need, Craig, is a tablet PC that looks like a legal pad. Then it looks like you’re scribbling down all-important lawyer-type notes so far as the Judge is concerned, but in reality you’re scribbling down all-important snarky remarks about Brian Sabean. Posted 04/03 at 04:44 PM

It’s okay Sarah, Craig has moved on to bigger and better things and probably won’t even look at the comments section anymore. No harm, no foul. Anyway, congrats Craig. Just another bookmark I have to create. Geez. Posted 04/03 at 06:35 PM
