Tuesday, June 23, 2009Great Moments in HydrologyFollowing last week's flooding at Miller Park, a lot of us said "man, that was a bunch of rain." Vinnie at Yellow Chair Sports, however, said it in far more erudite terms than you ever could.Just a quick note: Vinnie uses the term "recurrence interval" in his post. For that reason I was going to slap it with a NSFW tag, but then I realized that he wasn't talking about what I thought he was talking about. Don't look at me like that. It's a post about rain, for crying out loud. My mind wanders. Posted by Craig Calcaterra at 1:32pm Comments

Speaking of Vin Scully, he’s one of the reasons I’ve fallen utterly in love with MLB Network. I grew up with Vinnie doing the Dodger games in LA in the 70s and 80s, but since moving away in the mid-90s, I’ve missed out. Not only do I get the little snippets there (and I eventually picked up mlb.tv to get some of that) but I’ve been able to catch some vintage Scully—he called Larsen’s perfect game in the 1956 World Series, as well as watching him call the seventh game of the 1965 Dodgers-Twins World Series, complete with a great interview of Sandy Koufax in the victorious locker room. Great stuff. Posted 06/23 at 03:10 PM

That was a particularly interesting article, but I’m a meteorology geek. 2 inches of rain in half an hour boggles my mind, but I live in a climate where that’s about as much rain as we get in three weeks. As for Scully, I have fond memories of listening to him during the great Bonds home run chase. On the crowd mics, you could hear the boos from the Dodger faithful, and Vin innocently said “Hark, Bonds approacheth.” Posted 06/23 at 05:43 PM

Craig, that would be some unusual Vin Scully chatter, no? Come on now man, keep it together!
