Friday, August 07, 2009News Corp to charge for contentThis will be fun to watch:News Corp is set to start charging online customers for news content across all its websites. While I occasionally get a check for a book review from them, I gotta tell ya, I ain't gonna be paying to read Joel Sherman bleat about the Yankees in the New York Post. That's why God creadted Mike Lupica and the Daily News. Which explains why I don't believe in God anymore, but that's another conversation. Posted by Craig Calcaterra at 11:32am Comments

I guess he’ll be losing even more money from the people who advertise on his online sites. I, for one, will simply delete this rag from my computer. Posted 08/07 at 12:16 PM

It’s about perceived value. Many sites and many more in the future will go this route. They will offer free and paid content. ESPN does this right now with the Insider portion. Some people feel it’s worth the cost and pay for it, while others, like myself are satisfied with the free content. Everyone is jumping to the conclusion that News Corp will begin charging for everything. Murdoch didn’t get as rich as he is by being stupid. He will analyze the perfect blend of “free” and paid content to maximize profit. “Free” of course is paid by ad dollars. Posted 08/07 at 12:39 PM

People pay for one thing and one thing only on the internet, and that is boobs (of course most people don’t even pay for that). So unless the NY Post starts having page 3 girls, they will collect 0.0 dollars. Posted 08/07 at 12:48 PM

“Murdoch didn’t get as rich as he is by being stupid.” That’s what they said about the Hearst Corp., Times Company, Tribune Company… Posted 08/07 at 02:40 PM

I wish Rupert would make Fox News a premium cable channel so that I could get something I might actually watch as part of my “basic” subscription in that slot. Posted 08/07 at 04:02 PM

One fewer site to waste my time on. I’m not paying for this garbage, that’s for sure.
