Wednesday, April 15, 2009Programming NoteSorry folks, no ATH today. Son of Shyster decided he wanted to go to the emergency room at 3AM and he wouldn't drive himself so I had to go, too. Right now he's day-to-day, and he'll take some swings in the cage this afternoon and we'll see if he's ready to go at gametime.I may or may not be back online with posts later today. Priorities, man. I get it. Hope the little guy is OK. And yeah, I’ve done plenty of those. ‘Specially with my oldest, who had a knack, as it were. Got familiar with the ER staff. “Oh, hello Chris. Nice to see you again. Here’s your mail.” Posted 04/15 at 08:51 AM

Best wishes to Little C (though when it is revealed that he actually got sick after playing outdoor basketball after curfew in violation of his contract, we’ll see how much sympathy he gets from management Posted 04/15 at 08:52 AM

Hope Son o’ Shyster is recovering! Having priorities are a good thing. While the absense of ATH will be missed, it’s warranted. I would like to suggest a new nickname. Son of Shyster is a bit to close to Son of Sam. Might I suggest Shysterboy? It kind of has a superhero ring to it. Posted 04/15 at 09:34 AM

I can’t believe you don’t have the decency to put us, your dedicated and loyal readers, above the base needs and desires of your children. What kind of rotten, good-for-nothing blogger are you? As a good part-time stathead, don’t you know TANSTAAPSP (There Ain’t No Such Thing As A Play School Prospect)? Good luck to you, ShysterBoy and ShysterWife. There is nothing quite as heartwrenching as being in the ER / Intensive care with small children. Posted 04/15 at 09:42 AM

Hope he’s doing better. Scouts say he’s “gritty”, so he should be back at it soon. Posted 04/15 at 10:40 AM

I, too, know what it’s like. Hope it’s nothing more than a few stitches or a small cast or splint. Even that can be frightening… Posted 04/15 at 11:23 AM

Best of luck, SofS. Haven’t taken a kid to the ER in a few years, so I can’t comment on all of the recent retro amenities they have added. Posted 04/15 at 11:33 AM

Thanks all. Back from the hospital. Croup with a nice constricted airway, but all is basically well now. They gave him a breathing treatment and . . .wait for it . . . STEROIDS! Son of Shyster swears, though, that he only took it to recover from ailments and insists that this shouldn’t impact his Hall of Fame case. Posted 04/15 at 11:44 AM

I can see the PR maching warming up. I’ll bet he’ll have some defense about how it was prescribed by a doctor or something… Posted 04/15 at 11:54 AM

My little one (age 5) has that often, including the steroid perscription. It sucks. On the flip side, he is CRUSHING the ball in t-ball and can now throw 87mph. Posted 04/15 at 12:19 PM

Make a photocopy of the prescription, with the date whited out. You never know when that might come in handy in the future…. Posted 04/15 at 12:19 PM

Same exact thing happened to my 4-month old a few weeks back (2 year old had it too, but no ER visit). Scary when your kid isn’t breathing right. Anyway, now I have a much stronger 2-year old with nothing but lean muscle, and a five-month old with vice-grips for hands. You bet your ass I’m calling Scott Boras this afternoon. Best wishes to Son of Shyster. I know all about those 3am ER visits with the kids. No fun for anyone.
