The Baseball Chronicle is Go

A couple of months ago I told you about the new web venture from Phil Bencomo, the fellow who used to write Cub Town for the now decommissioned Baseball Toaster. It's called The Baseball Chronicle, which is in the business of publishing themed stories, essays, interviews or reporting about baseball. Well, it's live now, with the first batch of pieces around the theme "hooked." So far, a poem by Ember Nickel and a piece from Micheal Webb explaining the strange hold tabletop baseball games have on him.

We have plenty of statistics and analysis and breakdowns. Some stories are a nice change of pace, so by all means, let's encourage them by checking out The Baseball Chronicle. And how about submitting something? Next month's theme: "The best I ever saw."

Hmmm… are they still taking submissions for the current subject, or is it a one-shot thing?

Not sure, Melody, but if it’s not on the site anywhere obvious, email me and I’ll shoot you Phil’s contact information.

I wouldn’t exactly turn away submissions for “Hooked,” but I’d discourage it. I’d really like to get a regular schedule going—in April, I’ll both run the already-collected “Hooked” stories and take submissions for the May theme, “The best I ever saw.” In May, I’ll publish the “Best I ever saw” stuff while also taking stories for June. Etc.

So, I’d prefer that you send in something for next month’s theme, but if you’ve got something really compelling for “Hooked,” dont’ hesitate to send it in.

Hopefully that answers your question.

You got it, thanks, Phil.  I do really like my story, trying to see if I could make it work for “Best I Ever Saw…” it’s a better one for “Hooked,” for sure!  I’ll get back to you.
