Wednesday, April 01, 2009The Italian Dusty BakerRon Rollins -- writer of the most excellent Baseball Over Here -- has found a whale of a pitching line from the Italian leagues. Even better:UPDATE: OK, that may not be Melvin Mora. At least unless he has rented a decommissioned Concorde jet and is moonlighting. My guess: Marco Mora. Or maybe Massimo Mora. Mora is playing for the O’s. Baltimore 3B Melvin Mora smashed his first spring home run on Saturday against the Marlins. Mora went 2-for-4 in the game with two runs scored and is now batting .200 on the spring in 15 at bats. Posted 04/01 at 09:15 AM

I have no idea how I didn’t know that. Ron: we may be dealing with a “Marco Mora” or something like it in that box score. Posted 04/01 at 09:19 AM

I think I spoke to soon. Jason, from IIATMS, has informed that Melvin Mora is in camp with the Orioles. I have the wrong Melvin Mora sighting. My apologies, who knew there could be two of them. I will check my sources better next time. The Dusty Baker comments, however, remain fair game. Posted 04/01 at 09:21 AM

What I’ve done, somehow, is mix up Melvin Mora with former Oriole SS Manny Alexander, who is in Italy this year. The problem is, do I owe an apology to Melvin or Manny? Posted 04/01 at 09:50 AM
